21/10/2011: Please note submissions are no longer being sought as The Visual Weekly is no longer active. This page is retained for historical interest only.

To further enrich The Visual Weekly, you are invited to submit your pictures!

The Visual Weekly will feature Guest Photographers every week. Please see submission guidelines below.

Submission closing date
To make the week, simply email your pictures to The Visual Weekly no later than 11pm AEST Saturday.

Selection

I will deliberate on all submissions and post my selections of your pictures no later than Monday. One or more pictures from one or more photographers may be featured, at my discretion. Don’t be disheartened or feel rejected if your work doesn’t get picked; often pictures are picked to match each other, and there’s always the following week!

Layout

Layout will be similar to the usual weekly postings. Each picture will have as its caption the photographer’s full name and title of the picture, as supplied by the photographer. See here for examples.

Copyright

Full copyright remains with the photographer and I promise I won’t use a guest picture anywhere else, nor pass it on to anyone else. Any unused submissions will be deleted.

Medium of capture

No restriction. Use any sort of camera you like. DSLR, hybrid, compact, polaroid, film, pinhole…

Date of capture
No restriction. Send in your best stuff, whether it was shot yesterday or 10 years ago.

Post processing
No restriction. PP to your heart’s content. Or not at all. Go ahead and do that HDR. Or montage. Go crazy with Lightroom presets, or ‘film types’. Play with the 1001 features of Photoshop if you want. The finished product can be vastly different from the initial capture, or just the same.

Content
No restriction. However, please note that I am unlikely to select pictures that are deemed inappropriate or gratuitous.

There’s no need to presume I am partial to any particular style or subject matter. Pictures can be themed, part of a series, or standalone. Feel free to shock and amaze me, send edgy stuff, or beautiful stuff, or banal stuff. If it’s interesting, or says something, or engages the emotions, it’s likely to be chosen.

Submission format
Send as many pictures as you like.

Each picture must be in JPEG format, with the long side 800 pixels. DSLR pictures with standard 3:2 aspect ratio would have resolution 800 x 531. (If you are submitting a 1:1 aspect ratio, the picture would have resolution 531 x 531.)

Each photo must be in sRGB colour space (if you don’t know what that is, don’t worry, you’ll be fine).

Do not include frames or borders or watermarks/signatures – however:-

You can submit multiple pictures joined together as one, in such a case, you may use simple borders – for examples, see Shelvia’s Week 37 and Week 18 submissions. Note that such multiple pictures still need to have a long side of 800 pixels only.

As a guide, I use the following Lightroom export settings:
JPEG, quality = 100
colour space = sRGB
resolution: long side = 800 pixels
sharpening: for screen, standard

Start looking through your pictures, go out and shoot, send your pics and be a part of The Visual Weekly!

cheers

Eddy
